There are times, I admit, that I wished Sir Francis Drake never brought tobacco to England in 1573.  My dear lodgers were quite addicted to the substance.  Even Dr. Watson, a heavy smoker himself, referred to Mr. Holmes as “a self-poisoner by cocaine and tobacco.

Recipe

Smoker's Coffee from "Memoirs from Mrs. Hudson's Kitchen"

Thus called because of its minty taste. 
Serves 2

INGREDIENTS

  • ¼ cup crème de menthe

  • ¼ cup Tia Maria or Kahlua

  • 1 ½ cups strong coffee

  • ¼ cup heavy cream, whipped

  • 2 After 8 squares or long size as garnish

MODE

  1. Divide the 2 liquors equally between two tall glasses (preferably with handles).

  2. Fill each glass equally with the coffee.

  3. Top each glass with whipped cream

  4. Garnish with After 8 mints cut diagonally or long size in whipped cream.
